Research
My scholarship is primarily, though not exclusively, motivated by an interest in working with Black populations located in the ‘conspicuous margins.’ I use the term ‘conspicuous margins’ to describe people, places and practices that, despite their importance and visibility, often exist on the periphery or outskirts of mainstream attention. These people, places and practices may be overlooked, marginalized, or underrepresented in a range of ways, but I believe they hold unique insights, experiences, and perspectives that are valuable and deserve recognition.
Alongside reading and writing on this broad theme, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to editorial boards (e.g., Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers; Population, Space and Place; Children’s Geographies; and Political Geography). I was also elected by my peers to the position of Research and Higher Education representative on the Royal Geographical Society’s Council (Board of Trustees).
